Fundraising Gala to Benefit Humane Society

The 11th annual Tuxes and Tails Fundraising Gala will take place Saturday, April 20 at the Tampa Marriott Waterside.

Animal lovers are invited to an evening of live entertainment, complimentary wine, an elegant dinner, a cigar bar, live and silent auctions and a fashion show by the by adoptable pets during the 11th annual Tuxes and Tails Fundraising Gala. The gala, to benefit the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, will take place Saturday, April 20 from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Tampa Marriott Waterside, 700 S. Florida Ave., Tampa. This event serves as one of the major sources of donation income directly benefitting the Humane Society's animals, programs and services. Daughters of Murdered South Tampa Designer Hope to Honor Her

The daughters of interior designer Wendy Albano, who was found dead in her Bangkok hotel room earlier this year, are hoping to name part of the Humane Society of Tampa Bay's new animal clinic in their mother's honor.

The daughters of a South Tampa woman who was murdered in Thailand earlier this year are asking for the public's help in honoring her memory, ABC Action News reports. Wendy Albano, 51, a prominent interior designer, was found stabbed and strangled to death in her Bangkok hotel room in February. A business partner suspected by the familiy and authorities in the crime has reportedly fled back to his native India. U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson has asked the State Department to intervene, but there have been few leads in the case, ABC reports. Albano's daughters Lauren, a college senior, and Jenny, a recent law school graduate, are now hoping to raise $100,000 over the next four years to name the feral cat patio at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay's new…

St. Paddy’s Day-Themed Block PAWty Is Tonight

Don't miss the St. Paddy’s Day-themed Block PAWty in Hyde Park Village from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, March 15. The event is a free pet party featuring live music, drink specials, pet photos with the Easter Bunny, raffle prizes, shopping specials...and lots of doggone fun!  All proceeds benefit The Humane Society of Tampa Bay. A donation of $10 is suggested at the door. The PAWty takes place in the courtyard Via Way at the Snow Circle Shops by Downtown Dogs.

Hyde Park Village Live Music Series: Vodkanauts

The final concert of the Live Music Series 2011 drew a big crowd at Hyde Park Village on Wednesday night, Oct. 26.

The final concert of the Live Music Series 2011 drew a big crowd at Hyde Park Village on Wednesday night, Oct. 26. Some folks came with their kids, some brought their dogs, others came with a date to hear the surf, lounge, rock local band Vodkanauts perform. The Live Music Series at Hyde Park Village is a popular heritage event in its 24th year. Concerts take place on the last Wednesday of the month - May through October. Admission and parking are free and proceeds from beverage sales benefit a different charity each month. Proceeds from last night’s event will benefit the Humane Society of Tampa Bay. The Live Music Series will return to Hyde Park Village in May 2012.

Sad Animal Cruelty Commercials Are Worth Watching

There are a number of ways to support local rescue groups — not just animal adoption.

How many of you have seen the ASPCA commercials? You know the ones: The animals are battered, starved, in cages and all alone. The one that you turn the channel when it comes on, or you go into the other room.  Well, I was watching a show the other night, and one of those commercials kept coming on. Of course, my first thought is the same as everyone's: I turn the channel or look away. Well, this time I didn't. I watched the whole thing and cried the whole time. I know, some of you are thinking, "What a big baby." Right? I am sure I am, and it probably didn't help that I was on the couch with Kaiah on one side of me, Grayson laying under my feet and my foster Dahlia on my lap.
