Friday morning, Nov. 18, when I woke up, I immediately started looking for an excuse to get out of it. A migraine? Food poisoning? After all, the thought of going over the edge was making me a bit dizzy. “Maybe I can say that my car got stolen, but knowing the way my car looks like, I doubt someone would believe it,” I thought as I reached into the kitchen cabinet to grab a coffee mug. “Do one thing everyday that scares you,” replied the mug with Eleanor Roosevelt’s famous quote written on it. Come watch over thirty local residents rappelling down the Franklin Exchange building in downtown from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 19. Are they crazy? No, they are doing it to save lives. Over the Edge for Heartbeat International is an exhilarating fundraising event that will give the opportunity to the brave participants - who have been raising pledges for a minimum of $1,000 - to rappel down the 280 feet of the skyscraper at 655 N. Franklin St. The event is organized by Tampa-based Heartbeat International, a global non-profit that works with a network of medical manufacturers and international doctors and hospitals to provide cardiac implantable devices and treatment at no charge to indigent patients around the world.
