UPDATED: Help Find Tampa Bay Pets Permanent Homes

Hillsborough County Animal Services is at capacity and holding an adoption drive Saturday.

Hillsborough County Animal Services is at its capacity, and more pets are on the way.

The agency reported it is running out of cage space for additional animals and is in need of help for housing them before an adoption drive Saturday.

“We’re making as many pets available for adoption as possible,” said Marti Ryan of the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center at the agency’s North Falkenburg Road shelter in Tampa.

Ryan said the shelter is experiencing a surge in caretakers giving up their pets during the summer months and can use help from anyone willing to take them in.

“We are the public shelter of last resort,” Ryan said. “We have the greatest burden in the community.”

The “Hot Dogs and Cool Cats” event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Most adoptions will be provided at a charge of $20.

Animal services provides microchipping and state-mandated rabies shots for every cat and dog that comes to the facility. The agency also spays and neuters dogs.

Refreshments are expected at the public event, and a free ID tag will be given for every newly adopted pet.
