Scary Movie Fans Invited to Movie Series on July 19

The series kicked off last month at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park in downtown Tampa.

Cult classic and horror flick fans will have a reason to head downtown this summer.

The City of Tampa and Friends of Tampa Recreation Inc. are teaming up for the "Scream on the Green - Midnight Movie Mayhem" series at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park on Ashley Drive in downtown Tampa.

The movie series, which kicked off last month, will continue on Friday, July 19 with "Dawn of the Dead."

Concessions open at 11 p.m., and will include funnel cakes, roasted nuts, frozen lemonade, kettle corn and other snacks, according to city officials. The Wicked Witches food truck will also be at the event.

Low back chairs, blankets, coolers and dogs - on a leash - are allowed. Alcohol is not.

“This is a unique way to do movies in the park,” said Kitty Lyons, executive director of the Friends of Tampa Recreation, Inc.  “Based on our research, no other parks and recreation agency is doing midnight horror movies in the park.  This is something that Tampa can call its own.”
