Plant High's Antonio Crawford to Play for Miami

The Panthers' standout defensive back has dropped his commitment to Georgia Tech and will play for the Hurricanes, TBO.com reports.

Plant High defensive back Antonio Crawford, a starter on this past season, intends to commit to the University of Miami, TBO.com reports.

Crawford said he was backing out of a commitment to Georgia Tech made last summer to instead play for the Hurricanes after visiting their Coral Gables campus.

"I really bonded with the players and coaches down there and had a good time," Crawford told TBO.com. "It felt right. I just needed to talk it over with my family and coach (Robert) Weiner before I made my final decision."

Crawford told Patch in August that Plant's loss to St. Thomas Aquinas in the 2010 state final helped open his eyes and .

“Now, I think I’ve changed my life for the better,” Crawford said. “I come to every practice, even voluntary ones. I practice up tempo, try to motivate my teammates and be more of a leader.”

He went on to help lead the Panthers to a 14-1 record in his senior season and an eventual 31-20 win over Miramar in the state final.

National Signing Day, when many of the nation's top high school football players will make their college choices official, is Wednesday, Feb. 1.
