Video: Plant High Panthers Rally in Downtown for State Championship

The City hosted a victory rally to honor Plant High School state championship football and girls cross country teams on Monday, Jan. 30.

The Panthers invaded City Hall Plaza in downtown on Monday, Jan. 30, as the city hosted a victory rally to celebrate two state championship teams.

“It’s an exciting time,” said Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn, “I can’t tell you how proud we are for what you have done this year, but more importantly what you do everyday.”

and girls cross country teams won state titles in 2011.

“This was our 10th state championship, we qualified for the state championship for 25 years in a row, and in those 25 years, we’ve been in the top five 21 times,” said girls cross country coach Roy Harrison. “It takes a lot of work, a lot of dedication, and I am just so proud to coach them.”

A small team of officials and guests, which included Buckhorn and Plant football coach Robert Weiner, hung a banner with much fanfare on the Tampa Municipal Office Building in honor of the Panthers.
