Why Some Local Voters Prefer Gingrich over Romney

Some South Tampa voters have a different spin on things despite polls that have Romney in the lead.

Although opted for GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney in the 2012 Florida Presidential Preference Primary, some seem to prefer Newt Gingrich instead.

“I like his foreign policy and some of the other things he stands for,” said Richard Barrett after casting his vote at Palma Ceia United Methodist Church - Precinct 119.

For some local registered Republicans, voting for Gingrich was a last-minute decision.

“I kind of weighted between Newt and Mitt and I had a hard time deciding,” said Draughon Silcox.

Others chose Gingrich over Romney because of the former Massachusetts governor’s negative campaign.

“So far, (Gingrich) has told me what he is for,” said Warren Bourgeois at the Greater Tampa Association of Realtors - Precincts 131/149. “Romney’s never told me what he was for.”
