Vanessa McCleary Appointed as Housing and Community Development Manager

Mayor Bob Buckhorn announced that Vanessa McCleary has been appointed to the be the Housing and Community Development Manager under the Department of Planning and Development.

“We have set an ambitious agenda, from transforming the West Bank to creating new single-family housing options in East Tampa, and Vanessa will be a key member of the team. She is experienced in revitalizing neighborhoods, and fluent in the federal housing regulations,” said Buckhorn. “She knows how to get things accomplished at both the state and federal level, and that experience will serve the residents of Tampa well.”

McCleary has more than 20 years of experience in community development initiatives, including affordable housing, historic restoration, and neighborhood revitalization. She comes to the City of Tampa from the City of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and currently serves as the Downtown Development Manager. Prior to her current role, she served as the Community Development Administrator in Rocky Mount, working to generate new economic opportunities in the inner city with both non-profit and for-profit partner organizations.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Service from Springfield College, and is also a certified home specialist and housing counselor.

McCleary's starting salary will be $95,000.
