Whether you’re making your way to Ybor City’s Centennial Park to hear President Barack Obama speak Oct. 25 or you just need to drive through the area, there are some things you need to know.
Getting into the 1800 E. 8th Ave. park is going to require not only a ticket, but also a pass through security screening, said Lacey Rose, a spokeswoman for the Obama campaign.
“It’s kind of like airport security,” she said.
With that in mind, she cautioned those who plan on going should leave things like umbrellas, backpacks, large bags and drinks at home.
“We will be handing out water outside to the people in the lines and we’ll have water inside, as well,” Rose said. “They do search everything you do bring in.”
Here’s what else you need to know:
The Rally Schedule
- 7 a.m. Doors open for people with tickets
- 9 a.m. This is the estimated time for Obama to make an appearance
Traffic Concerns
Law enforcement is not releasing a list of what roads will be closed, but Detective Larry McKinnon of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office did offer some advice for those traveling through Ybor City or South Tampa on Thursday morning.
“Like always, you can expect traffic delays and road closures,” McKinnon said.
Bay area residents who need to be downtown or in Ybor at certain times Thursday morning should leave early.

It's sad to see someone so divorced from reality, and I also hope that he gets the medical help he clearly needs.

"...I don't think any politician in Washington, most of whom are male, should be making healthcare decisions for women..." and “When you elect a president, you’re counting on someone you can trust to fight for you, who you can trust to do what they say they’re going to do, who you can trust to make sure that when something unexpected happens he or she is going to be thinking about your family, your future...Trust matters!” http://www.tampabay.com/news/politics/national/article1258288.ece
"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America 's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, "the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better." ~ Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006 (it was so nice of him to give us this great quote for posterity!)
We have been lucky to have him in the office, and I am going out and working my BUTT off this week because I want him rehired!
