Mayor Buckhorn to Dedicate New Park in Channel District

Mayor Buckhorn will dedicate Washington Street Park in the Channel District on Tuesday.

From City of Tampa Online:

Mayor Bob Buckhorn will officially dedicate a new park in Tampa's Channel District on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 5.30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

Washington Street Park, 118 N 12th St., is the result of the public participation process, which responded to the neighborhood’s needs. The half-acre nautical-themed park has oversized sea grass sculptures, a large canvas shade structure and plaza, a lawn area, a non-traditional play area, and a dog run.

The design allows for flexible use of the plaza and lawn areas, accommodating gatherings of various sizes as well as individual pursuits. The park is enhanced at night with special light features, including spot lights and LED fiber optic lights imbedded into the main entry columns.

Construction started in spring 2011. The project cost $815,000 and was funded with property taxes from within the Channel District Community Redevelopment Area (CRA).
