MacDill Ranks 6th in Best Bases for Airmen

It tied for the honors in an Air Force Times survey with Grand Forks in North Dakota.

When it comes to choice base assignments for U.S. Air Force members, MacDill ranks in the Top 10.

That’s according to a recently released study conducted by the Air Force Times that ranked about a dozen factors, including crime rates, traffic, school quality, climate and on-base amenities. When all was said and done, Scott AFB in Illinois and Wright-Patterson in Ohio tied for first.

The Sunshine State’s military installations didn’t make the list of Best Bases for Airmen until MacDill’s entry in sixth place, but it was followed closely by Eglin in eighth place.  Patrick tied for 14th place, while Tyndall came in 55th in the survey that examined 68 bases in total.

“I would’ve thought MacDill would make it higher up the list,” Adrianna Domingos-Lupher, a MacDill-based military blogger whose husband works at the base told The Tampa Tribune. “This is one of my favorite assignments over the course of my life as a brat and now a spouse.”

Sixth-place honors don’t look that bad to Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn. He told the Tribune the ranking reinforces Tampa’s efforts to “honor the service of the men and women who wear the uniform of our country.”
