Get Informed during National Consumer Protection Week

The Hillsborough County Consumer Protection Agency will educate residents about making better financial decisions throughout the week.

The Hillsborough County Consumer Protection Agency joins federal and state government agencies for the 14th Annual National Consumer Protection Week to provide practical tips to help consumers make better financial decisions.

All week, the County’s Consumer Protection Agency will be providing information and resources to help steer clear of fake website product reviews, phony locksmiths, unlicensed contractors, questionable home security contracts, and debt relief and mortgage scams.

Also during National Consumer Protection Week, the County’s Consumer Protection Agency will bring its community outreach program to several areas, and offer a phone bank and information panel. Investigators will make presentations including:

  • Consumer Alert Phone Bank and Panel at ABC Action News Studio, 4045 N. Himes Ave., noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7.
  •  Cyber Crime and the Elderly at Canterbury Tower, 3501 Bayshore Blvd., 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, March 8.
  • Florida Landlord – Tenant Law: Consumer Rights and Responsibilities at Metropolitan Ministries, 2002 N. Florida Ave., 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Friday, March 9.

Consumers should log onto the County’s Consumer Protection website at www.hillsboroughcounty.org/consumerprotection for a wide range of tools to use to recognize a rip-off, sniff out a scam, deal with debt and face foreclosure.
