Thieves Target South Tampa

Here is a look back at the Tampa Police Department's District 1 crime blotter for the week.

Friday August 3

  • A thief gained access to a fenced backyard in the 5100 block of Elberon Street through a gate. The suspect threw a clay pot at a glass French door causing the door to pop open. Once inside thief targeted the bedrooms, rummaging through all dresser drawers. The thief removed a pillowcase and put loose change, foreign currency, jewelry and inexpensive watches in the case. Bypassing laptops and flat screen televisions, the intruder left with the pillowcase with the stolen contents.

  • A thief entered another fenced yard in 3100 block of West El Prado Street and went to the rear of the residence, utilizing a large stone paver to smash a solid window that stayed together because of the tint. Pushing the glass in, the thief entered the master bathroom, went to a closet and removed a small safe containing papers and a $24,000 women’s diamond ring. The thief also removed men’s watches from a jewelry box on the dresser before fleeing through an East Side door.

Saturday August 4

  • A resident in the 3900 block of West Cleveland Street returned home to find that their home had been broken into through an unknown point of entry. Jewelry and a firearm were taken and two gun safes had been moved.
  • Intruders kicked in the front double doors of a house in the 3600 block of West De Leon Street. Jewelry and a laptop were taken. A neighbor reported seeing a beige Chevy Malibu leaving the scene.

Monday August 6

  • A woman loading groceries in the back of her car at Britton Plaza saw two men open the front of her vehicle and take her purse from the passenger seat. Her debit card was subsequently used at a Marathon gas station.
