Report: 12-Year-Old 'Accidentally' Discharges Gun, Strikes 9-Year-Old

The shooting is under investigation by the Tampa Police Department.

According to a preliminary report from the Tampa Police Department, "three  juveniles were standing in the area of Chestnut and Oregon earlier this
evening [Friday, Sept. 13] when one of the juveniles produced a gun."

"As they were examining the firearm it was accidentally discharged striking the 9-year-old victim in the forearm," the report, issued Friday night at 10:17 p.m., continues. The juvenile was transported to the hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.

Officers reportedly were looking for the juvenile who discharged the firearm.

"There were several conflicting stories at the scene but it is believed the juveniles were friends, if not related," the report continues.

According to a breaking news report from ABC Action News, "the mother of the victim said she didn’t know who the other children were or that they had a gun."
