Police Investigating Thursday Night Shootings, 2 Injured

Tampa Police are looking for suspects involved in two shootings that occurred around 9 p.m. Thursday night.

Tampa Police are looking for suspects in two Thursday night shootings.

Authorities say the first shooting happened around 9 p.m. at the Best for Less restaurant on North 22 Street off of East Fowler Street.

After entering the restaurant, the suspect shot Noel Barnes, 53, leaving him critically injured. They also ripped a gold chain off another victim at the establishment.

Also during the 9 p.m. hour, Tampa Police responded to a second shooting near the intersection East Linebaugh and Jasmine avenues. 

There, Cory Smith, 18, was riding his bike when police say he was robbed after he was told to “give it up.” Smith was shot and wounded, after which he ran and gained help a nearby gas station.

Barnes is in hospital, and has been upgraded to stable condition. Smith was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Law enforcement encourages anyone with information on the two shootings to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS(8477) or text “CSTB (and tip).” Anonymous tips leading to arrest are eligible for up to a $1,000 cash reward.
