Freddie Solomon Memorial Service Set

The Tampa football legend and Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office employee will be memorialized on Monday, Feb. 20, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church.

A memorial service is planned for Monday, Feb. 20, for Freddie Solomon, the Tampa sports legend and longtime employee of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, who .

The service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 5225 N. Himes Ave., Tampa.

Solomon, 59, starred as a quarterback at the University of Tampa and went on to win two Super Bowls with the NFL's San Francisco 49ers.

He is also fondly remembered for his work in more than 20 years in community relations with the sheriff's office, where he took part in back-to-school events, Christmas programs, Family Fun Days and football camps and clinics for area kids.

The Hillsborough Sheriff's Freddie Solomon Annex in Ybor City was dedicated in his honor last month.

Preceding Solomon in death was his grandmother Zinker Jones, his sister Shirley Pugh and his Father Freddie Solomon Sr., the sheriff's office said.

He is survived by his wife off 33 years, Delilah, along with his mother, Bessie Solomon; mother-in-law Mae "Sugar" Jeffers; brothers Richard, Oneal (and wife Dorothy), Roger (and wife Jean); brother-in-laws Lanness and wife Patricia Robinson; William Jeffers; special sister Ida Burns and a host of nieces, nephews, other special relatives and many friends.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University of Tampa Freddie Solomon Scholarship Fund, HCSO Charities, Inc. or the DeBartolo Family Foundation.
