Meteorologists Say Wave Could Become Tropical Depression

Forecasters say a tropical wave formed in the mid-Atlantic Monday and could intensify into a depression. Check out our hurricane safety tips.

Floridians should keep an eye out on a tropical wave in the Atlantic.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami is tracking a tropical wave located about 12 degrees north and 43 degrees west, about 1250 miles west of Barbados.

Meteorologist Michael Brennan of NHC forecasts a 70 percent chance for the wave to develop into a tropical depression over the next two days, and a 70 percent chance of further development over the next five days.

August 1 is the beginning the historical peak of hurricane formation in the Atlantic, a period that lasts until about September 10, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
