Gothic Graveyard Walk

On Sunday, October 27, 2013, celebrate Halloween with friends: new, old, and dead.

The Gothic Graveyard Walk is an hour-long guided walking tour of Oaklawn Cemetery, Tampa’s oldest public burying ground, established in 1850. The Cemetery is the final resting place for 13 City Mayors, veterans of seven wars, pirates, slaves, yellow fever victims, Indian traders, Ybor City’s founder V.M. Ybor, and Tampa’s most notorious criminal, Charlie Wall.

Your guide for the Walk is Miss Prudence Fipwhistle (died 1899), a.k.a. Maureen Patrick, Tampa Historical Society’s President and an accomplished historical actor. “Miss Fipwhistle”, in elaborate nineteenth century mourning attire, will lead visitors on an often touching, frequently hilarious, and always fascinating tour of this unique and beautiful graveyard.

A $5 donation at the Ramble’s end benefits the Society, a not-for-profit organization, and its many preservation/education efforts at Oaklawn and other Tampa historic cemeteries.
