Free Workshops and Business Counseling Services Offered to Military Personnel

Hillsborough County's Small Business Information Center will provide free workshops and business counseling at MacDill Air Force Base.

From Hillsborough County Government Online:

Hillsborough County’s Small Business Information Center (SBIC) is partnering with MacDill Air Force Base to offer free workshops and business counseling services beginning Thursday, April 5.

The workshops are open to anyone in the military, military spouses, dependents, and individuals that have access to the base, including veterans.

The following workshops will be held from 1-3 p.m. at the Airman and Family Readiness Center conference room, 8105 Condor St., Bldg. 18, at MacDill Air Force Base:

  • April 5 – Smart Start: Get the information you need to start your own business, including licensing requirements, zoning issues, marketing and financing options.
  • May 3 – Business Plans: Find out what tools you need to develop a good business plan.
  • June 7 – Marketing Your Business: Identify your target markets and your competition, and develop marketing strategies to enhance your business.
  • July 5 – Bookkeeping Essentials: Learn important bookkeeping practices for record-keeping, accounts receivable/payable, payroll, and sales taxes.
  • August 2 – Doing Business With Government: Find out how to register with local agencies, and how to find bidding opportunities.

In addition, SBIC staff will offer free business counseling sessions to assist entrepreneurs with developing business ideas, a business plan and marketing plans; review financial options and accounting; and explain how to start and operate a business in Hillsborough County.

These one-hour counseling sessions will be scheduled at the Airman and Family Readiness Center on the following dates: April 23, May 21, June 25, July 23, August 20, and Semptember 24.
