Bridges to Be Illuminated in Art Installation

The permanent art installation will provide a signature vista for the city.

Mayor Bob Buckhorn unveiled his plan to light up Tampa’s bridges on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Lights On Tampa: Agua Luces initiative will permanently illuminate four landmark bridges with low energy LED lighting, according to the city's website.

The four bridges are: Platt Street Bridge, Brorein Street Bridge, Kennedy Boulevard Bridge, and the CSX Railroad Bridge.

The installation will start in early summer and the final result will provide a signature vista for the city by August, in time for the Republican National Convention.

The permanent art installation is sponsored by Tampa Electric Company. Chicago-based lighting artist Tracey Dear, who lit the bridges in Chicago as well as the Wrigley Building, was chosen for the installation of Agua Luces, which translates into “water lights.”
