Old Tampa Book Company’s Grand Fall Sale Is This Weekend

Indulge in good books, wine and company at a local independent shop in downtown.

Nothing beats spending an evening curled up on the couch while reading a good book and sipping hot cocoa on a cold night.

Stack up on good reads during the Grand Fall Sale at the Old Tampa Book Company this weekend.

From Friday, Oct. 21, to Sunday, Oct. 23, all books less than $100 will be 50 percent off the regular price at the store located at 507 N. Tampa St.

Also, folks will have the chance to mingle with other book lovers while sipping on a glass of wine and nibbling on sweet treats from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the downtown shop.

Owner Ellen Brown said that the store offers about 40,000 rare, used and out-of-print books, most of them in hard cover. From fiction and art history to gardening and cooking, the Old Tampa Book Company has something for everyone.

“My husband is a wonderful book hunter,” Brown said.

Despite the recent frenzy over the Kindle, this independent book store, which opened its doors 17 years ago, has not lost its old clientele and continues to attract new customers.

“We deal with books that can’t be found at Barnes & Noble, and we have a very different kind of audience,” Brown said. “There are people who still like to read with a book in their hands, and this is never going to change.”

The event will also feature a sidewalk sale with hundreds of $1 books.

The Old Tampa Book Company’s Grand Fall Sale is from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
