Bailey's Does Ice Cream and More

The Davis Island eatery certainly has a sweet tooth. But there's dinner and take-out lunch, too.

How about a scoop of fresh chocolate chip ice cream with hand shaved, Valhrona chocolate?

Or a double dip of succulent peach or raspberry sorbet?

That’s what you’ll find at Bailey’s Restaurant on Davis Islands, a charming eatery where you can find some of the best homemade dessert around.

Owner Kim Bailey has loved food all his life. It’s his passion. He studied at the University of Dijon in France and has traveled the world discovering culinary secrets.

And Bailey is happy to share his sweet secrets, including where to find the pure vanilla extract he uses in all his desserts. He uses Neilsen-Massey Madagascar Pure Vanilla Extract - costing about $80 per gallon compared to standard vanilla extracts which cost between $5 to $9 per gallon. When you taste the vanilla ice cream, you’ll savor the rich, vanilla flavor along with the creamy smooth texture.

Ice cream is only one of the homemade dessert options at Bailey’s. Butter-crusted blueberry cobbler is served alongside their peach ice cream. There’s also the double chocolate devil’s food layer cake, frosted with a delectable butter cream icing. Of course, there is a generous scoop of Bailey’s Madagascar vanilla ice cream on top.

If you’re not in the mood for a larger dessert, try an IBC Rootbeer Float made with the Madagascar vanilla ice cream, and served with two homemade chocolate chip cookies.

But it’s not just homemade desserts at Bailey’s. Lunch is served Tuesday through Saturday and dinner, Wednesday through Saturday at their location on East Davis Boulevard. According to Bailey, the main focus is on serving great home cooked-style meals in a relaxing, informal atmosphere.

The menu at Bailey’s changes weekly, and it is available online at their website. Ice cream is available at lunch and dinner, but the rest of the desserts are only available during dinner hours as they are made fresh each day.

According to owner Kim Bailey, there are only three rules for eating as his restaurant:

“Rule #1: You Must Have Dessert.

Rule #2: You Must Have Dessert.

Rule #3: You Must Have Dessert – Life is just too short not to!”

Bailey’s restaurant is a full fledged eatery where Bailey says you can enjoy “comfort food from around the United States and from around the globe.” He started eight years ago strictly as a caterer. Many of his customers kept asking him to open a restaurant, which he did in Old Hyde Park. In November, after four years in Hyde Park, Bailey moved his operation to Davis Islands. His chief goal: provide a relaxing meal - with a great dessert - in a comfortable atmosphere.

The seating on the garden patio, filled with blooming flowers, surrounds a bubbling fountain. The tables are shaded with red umbrellas, which create a relaxing haven in the Davis Island business district. When visiting, keep in mind Bailey’s rule: “You must order dessert” – not because he says so, but because you’ll be missing a real treat.

Bailey’s also offers carry out, express service at lunch with curbside pick up, and catering. On July 10, they’ll debut a Sunday Brunch. Reservations are suggested for that.
