Land of Fire and Ice Stomps into Glazer Children’s Museum

On October 5, the Glazer Children’s Museum will open a brand new, dinosaur themed traveling exhibit where children can explore prehistoric environments, dig for fossils, and meet touchable dinosaurs of all shapes and sizes.

Dinosaurs: Land of Fire and Ice was created by the Minnesota Children's Museum based on new research that suggests some dinosaurs also survived and thrived in cold weather climates, in addition to tropical climates. The exhibit, designed for ages 3-10, allows children to experience two distinct prehistoric environments and meet the dinosaurs that lived there. There is also a Field Research Station where children become paleontologists by uncovering fossils and creating fossil rubbings and tracings. 

In the tropical “Land of Fire,” children can buzz through a lava-covered volcano while wearing insect costumes, followed by an adventure through a swampy bog where they will identify an ecosystem of plants and animals. 

They will also come face to face with the Triceratops and T-Rex, age-old residents of the tropical regions.  The “Land of Ice” is an arctic area that features rocky steps, an icy slide, and stepping stones across an icy river. Families will find the Troodon and the Edmontosaurus in this area, both known to have called Alaska home during their time on this earth. 

Dinosaurs will not just be invading the exhibits at the Museum; they will also stomp their way into birthday parties and camps. A new birthday theme will be available to families beginning in October that features brand new dinosaur decorations, costumes, games, and more. 

Additionally, Fall Break Camp will feature a day full of dinosaur adventures and explorations of the land before time through science and creativity.

“Dinosaurs Land of Fire & Ice is a great addition to the Museum’s permanent exhibits and is unlike anything we have hosted before” said Kerry Falwell, Director of Education and Community Partnerships at the Museum. “The allure of dinosaurs gives us the opportunity to introduce children to some really fun, science-themed content.” 

The new exhibit will open in the Telemundo Tampa Exhibit Hall for an exclusive members’-only preview on October 4, followed by the official grand opening held on October 5.  Dinosaurs: Land of Fire and Ice will be open to all families until January 20.
