Are You a Fan of Scary Movies?

The City of Tampa's "Scream on the Green Midnight Summer Movie Series" begins on Friday, June 21.

Cult classic and horror flick fans from South Tampa and Hyde Park will have a reason to head downtown this summer.

The City of Tampa and Friends of Tampa Recreation Inc. are teaming up for the "Scream on the Green Midnight Summer Movie Series" at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park on Ashley Drive in downtown Tampa.

The free series kicks off on Friday, June 21 with "The Shining," featuring Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall. The series runs on the third Friday of each month through August 16.

Other films on the roster include "Dawn of the Dead" and  "The Exorcist."

Cotton candy, kettle corn and lemonade are among concessions offered for purchase during the series. Coolers, leashed dogs and low back chairs are allowed, but no alcohol is permitted.

“This is a unique way to do movies in the park,” said Kitty Lyons, executive director of the Friends of Tampa Recreation, Inc.   “Based on our research, no other parks and recreation agency is doing midnight horror movies in the park.  This is something that Tampa can call its own.”
