Roads Closed for RNC to Reopen by Noon Friday

Traffic was diverted in areas of downtown Tampa due to the Republican National Convention this week. The RNC ends today.

As delegates and members of the media wrap up their coverage of the Republican National Convention today in Tampa, city officials announced their plans for resuming traffic flow downtown.

Here's the plan

  • The local lanes of the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway between Willow Avenue (Exit 4) and 50th Street (Exit 11) will reopen at 5 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 31.
  • All of Florida Avenue will be open by 5 a.m. on Friday.
  • The traffic plan for roads leading into Harbour Island will remain as it is until noon on Friday. All checkpoints that lead to Harbour Island will be removed by noon.
  • All other roads will reopen by noon.

The RNC Call Center, which provides information on downtown parking options, directions, hospitality information and street closures, will be operating until noon on Friday. The toll-free number is 866-762-8687.
