Rip Current Advisory in Effect for Tampa Bay Area

A high rip current risk is effect for Tampa Bay and Ruskin through Thursday evening.

The National Weather Service in Tampa says westerly and southwesterly winds of 10 to 15 mph are spurring a moderate chance for rip currents along Tampa's coastal metro area.

Rip currents can pull even the strongest swimmers out to sea, so beachgoers are strongly advised against venturing into the Gulf waters.

In the event of being caught in a rip current, NWS advises swimming parallel to the shore until you can swim out of force of the rip current and back to shore.
