Libraries Celebrate Teen Read Week

Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative encourages teens to read, enter a short story writing contest and take a free walking ghost tour of downtown Tampa.

The Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative will celebrate Teen Read Week from Oct. 16 to Oct. 22.

This year's theme is Picture It At Your Library -  which encourages teens to read illustrated materials, seek out creative books, or imagine the world through literature, just for the fun of it.

Libraries across the world celebrate Teen Read Week with a variety of special events and programs aimed at encouraging teens to read for pleasure and to visit their libraries for free reading materials.

Hillsborough County teens may enter the annual Teenz Ink short story writing contest for a chance to win great prizes. Submit short story contest entries by mail, online or at any Hillsborough County public library. Deadline for entries is Nov. 19.

Also, teens in grades 6-12 can participate in a free Walking Ghost Tour of downtown Tampa on Saturday, Oct. 22. Tour starts at 1 p.m. at the John F. Germany Public Library, 900 N Ashley Drive.
