GET OUT: Weekend Events Preview April 26-28

With a variety of entertainment venues and restaurants in the area, there's no reason to spend the weekend at home. We've put together a list of fun things to do in the South Tampa-Hyde Park area.

Asia Fest

Hillsborough County will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Asian-Pacific Heritage Month with the annual Asia Fest Saturday, April 27 from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Cotanchobee Park in the Channelside District. The event will include food, music, cultural exhibits and dances.u

Urban Chicken Race

The Urband Chicken Race will take place Saturday, April 27 from noon to 5 p.m. at Fountain Square, 238 E. Davis Blvd., Tampa. Benefitting The Spring domestic violence shelter and the Franciscan Mission Service, teams will compete to solve 12 clues. An after-race party will include raffle prizes, food, drinks and music.

Fine Wine and Food Festival

The Seagrapes Fine Wine & Food Festival will take place Saturday, April 27 from 8 to 11 p.m. at The Florida Aquarium in Tampa. The event will feature more than 140 along with food from 20 area restaurants, live entertainmenta slient auction and all the aquarium exhibits.

Experience the Beatles

Experience the Beatles with RAIN will be presented Saturday, April 27 at 8 p.m. at the Straz Center in Tampa. Tickets start at $34.50.

The Tenors to Perform

The Tenors will perform at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts, 1010 North W.C. MacInnes Place, Tampa, Sunday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. Regularly priced tickets start at $39.50.

Charity Awareness Fair

The first CAFÉ, Charity Awareness Fair and Expo, will allow students and their parents to meet with more than 30 local charities Sunday, April 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hyde Park Village, 1621 W. Snow Circle, Tampa. In addition to providing students with volunteer opportunities, the free fair will include food provided by Timpano Italian Chophouse, Doormet Gourmet Cafe, Datz, Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza and Sam's Club.

Historic Homes Workshop

Tampa Preservation Inc. will host a Historic Homes Workshop Saturday, April 27 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 1706 W. Cypress St., Tampa. There will be local experts on hand to discuss various aspects of renovating and restoring historic homes.

Healthy Kids Day

The YMCA's Healthy Kids Day will take place Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, 600 N. Ashley St., Tampa. The free event will feature active play and educational activities, such as bounce houses, fitness demonstrations, arts and crafts, water safety tips, healthy snacks and sports giveaways, as well as appearances by professional athletes and well-known mascots.

Harbour Island Arts Fest

The Harbour Island Art Walk will take place Sunday, April 28 from noon to 5 p.m. at 800 Harbour Post Dr., Tampa. It will feature artists, live music, food and drinks and a free kid's art activity area.

Spring Book Sale

The Jan Kaminis Platt Regional Library, 3910 S. Manhattan Ave., Tampa, will host its spring book sale Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be thousands of children's books, biographies, classic, fiction and coffee table books for sale.

Swim Across America Clinic

There will be a two-hour swim clinic at the South Tampa YMCA, 4411 S. Himes Ave., Tampa, Sunday, April 28 from noon to 2 p.m. for anyone registered in the May 17 Swim Across America fundraiser.

Outdoor Movie Night

Tate's Pizzeria & Sports Bar, 927 S. Howard Ave., Tampa, hosts an outdoor movie night each Thursday and Friday night on its 12-foot movie screen.

Classic Film Series

The Tampa Theatre, 711 N. Franklin St., Tampa, will present its Classic Film Series each Sunday at 2 p.m. On Sunday, April 28, "Annie" will be shown. Tickets are $9 for adults and $7 for kids.

Saturday Storytime

Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 213 N. Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa, hosts a weekly story hour for kids Saturdays at 11 a.m.

Cycling and Social

The Tampa Bay Running Club hosts a cycle and social each Sunday at 4 p.m. starting from Marjorie Park Marina, 97 Columbia Dr., Tampa.
