Free Downtown Library Programs, Classes in June

From an introduction to blogging to crime scene investigation, find out what free programs are available at your public library.

Check out these free events and classes taking place in January at the , 900 N. Ashley Dr.

  • Motion Commotion on Wednesdays: June 13, 20 and 27. 

This free, fun and very interactive preschool music and movement program will shake out some sillies. The class is open to children 18 months to 5 years of age along with their caregivers.

  • Circus Dreams Summer Reading Extravaganza on Saturday, June 9 at 2 p.m.

Children and families are welcomed to find out what summer reading is all about: be entertained, gather goodies, and play games at this grand kick‐off.

  • Introduction to Blogging on Saturday, June 9 at 2 p.m.

A blog is a great way to share hobbies, life experiences and photos with family members, and is an easy way to create a personal webpage. Participants will learn how to create a blog using Google’s Blogger website.

For adults. Participants must register in person after 1 p.m. Limit of 12 participants.

  • Wonders Of Nature on Thursday, June 14 at 10:30 a.m.

Children are invited to learn about free-flight behaviors of raptors and parrots with Matt Edmond's Wonders of Nature. They will have the chance to meet live animals and combines audience participation, humor and lessons on conversation.

For children ages 5 to 12 years and families.

  • No Fuss Foods: Budget‐Friendly on Saturday, June 23 at 2 p.m.

Cooking creative, delicious and nutritious meals does not need to take a lot of time or cost a lot of money. Join Rowena Sjovall of No Fuss Foods as she demonstrates side dish recipes that are easy and budget‐friendly.

  • Picasa on Saturday, June 16 at 2 p.m.

Learn to use Google's photo sharing tool Picasa to edit, organize and share photos.

For adults. Participants must register in person after 1 p.m. Limit of 12 participants.

  • Crime Scene Investigation on Tuesday, June 19 at 2 p.m.

Kids ages 12-18-years old are invited to uncover the real science behind CSI in this program.

  • The Tricky Dogs Show on Saturday, June 23 at 2 p.m.

See a hilarious circus-style dog act comedy, starring a group of tricky dogs and their pet human.

For children ages 5 to 12 years and families.

  • Night Photography on June 27 at 6:30 p.m. 

Professional photographer Ronald Slaton will teach participants how to take better night photographs with a digital camera. Composition, lighting, depth of field, point of view and shutter speed will be some of the topics covered.

For adults. Participants must register in advance at the Ask Me Kiosk. Limit of 25 participants.

  • Storybook Of Dreams on Thursday, June 28 at 10:30 a.m.

Children will be guided by parrots and puppets on this hilarious, magical journey which explores characters who dare to dream big.

For children ages 5 to 12 years.
