Starbucks Happy Hour Starts Friday

The coffee shops will host a pre-summer celebration with some cool drinks at half price.

Starbucks fans may think that every hour is happy hour at their favorite neighborhood coffee shop. But Starbucks will host a pre-summer Happy Hour celebration starting Friday, offering Frappuccinos at half their regular price. Happy Hour times are from 3-5 p.m., with the special running through May 12. Any Frappuccino drink is half price, such as the Caramel Ribbon Crunch Frappuccino or the Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino or the Caffee Vanilla Frappuccino. Wawa's South Tampa Grand Opening Scheduled for May 8

The convenience store and gas station will open its doors near the intersection of Dale Mabry Highway and Gray Street, just north of Kennedy Boulevard.

This just in from officials at Wawa, 401 N. Dale Mabry just north of Kennedy Boulevard: Wawa Inc. announced the grand opening of its sixth store in the greater Tampa Area. To mark the occasion, Wawa will hold a grand opening celebration at 10 a.m. on Wednesday May 8 at the new store, 401 N. Dale Mabry Highway. Beginning this  February, Wawa officially entered the Tampa market, opening five stores in five weeks time. The grand opening of its sixth Tampa Area store continues Wawa’s expansion throughout the Sunshine State, as Wawa is set to open 14 additional stores in Florida before year’s end - four in Tampa, and 10 in Orlando. Officials Planning Upgrades to Westshore Area

The Westshore Alliance finished a master plan to spruce up the area, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

The Westshore area of Tampa is known for its shopping malls, office space and proximity to the Tampa International Airport and downtown. But members of the Westshore Alliance - billed as a business organization that wants to improve the quality of life of those who work and live in the area - are planning on making improvements using a master plan. Those improvements range from landscaped medians to bicycle lanes, according to the Tampa Bay Times. The plan is scheduled to be presented to Tampa City Council today, the Times said, although approval isn't required because Westshore Boulevard is a county road. What do you think of the plan? Mayor Bob Buckhorn Hosting Food Truck Fiesta Downtown

The fiesta is on the first Wednesday of every month at Lykes Gaslight Park.

This just in from Ali Glisson at the City of Tampa: Mayor Buckhorn’s May Food Truck Fiesta will be on Wednesday, May 1, and will feature new food trucks.  The event is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Lykes Gaslight Square Park on Franklin Street between Madison Street and Kennedy Boulevard. In conjunction with the Tampa Downtown Partnership, the Mayor’s Food Truck Fiesta was first launched in Lykes Gaslight Square Park in November 2011. InVision Tampa Unveils Report for Nebraska-Hillsborough Corridor

InVision Tampa is a project using federal grant money to revamp parts of Tampa, from downtown to Ybor City and the Nebraska-Hillsborough avenue corridor. Workshops are being held this week to solicit community feedback about the report.

Efforts to create a pedestrian-friendly downtown and maximize economic development for businesses is continuing momentum with InVision Tampa - a project using federal grant money to revamp parts of the city - unveiling an "Issues and Opportunities Report" this week for the Nebraska-Hillsborough corridor. The report, which shows the findings of a consultants research and ideas expressed by citizens during charrettes and online forums about Nebraska and Hillsborough avenues, will be discussed during community design workshops on Tuesday, April 30 and Thursday, May 2. At 5:30 p.m. on April 30, Buckhorn will meet with students from Middleton High, who took on specific areas of the Nebraska-Hillsborough corridor and worked with InVision Tampa …

Channelside Retail Complex Plans Revealed; Public Forum on May 8

Plans for the area include restaurants and bars, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Channelside Bay Plaza isn't what is used to be. Once known as a Tampa Bay hub for dining and entertainment, little growth or economic development has been sparked in the area for years. But two real estate investors are planning to change that. A joint venture by the operators of Liberty Channelside LLC is purchasing Channelside's lease from Irish Bank Resolution Corp., according to the Tampa Bay Times. The bid has to be approved by the board that governs the Tampa Port Authority, the Times said, which could occur as soon as the May 21 meeting. Plans haven't been specified for the plaza, but ideas ranging from work space to bars and a hotel have been thrown around by the investors. A public forum will be held at the aquarium at 5:30 p.m. …
