Arts Council Offering Grants for Cultural Arts Programs

The council is now accepting applications through Aug. 16.

Nonprofit groups that support the arts and culture in Hillsborough County may be eligible for financial assistance. The Arts Council of Hillsborough County is accepting applications for its 2013-14 Cultural Development Grants for nonprofit organizations that provide arts and cultural programs in Hillsborough County. Cartooning and Painting Art Classes for Kids Start May 21 at Hyde Park Art Studio

The session runs from May 21 until June 27.

Hyde Park Art Studio is offering cartooning and painting art classes for kids aged 7-12. The session runs from May 21 until June 27 at the studio, 702 S. Albany, with instructor Tim Gibbons. Cartooning for Kids is from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m., and allows kids to learn the basics of cartooning, from facial expression to story boarding. Supplies are included, and the cost is $60 for a six-week session. Painting for Kids is from 5:15 p.m. until 6:15 p.m., and will show kids how to have fun with watercolor and acrylics. Artist to Paint Giant American Flag as Tribute to Tampa Wounded Warrior

Artist Scott LoBaido will begin work on the mural Monday, May 6 on the north side of the Tampa Firefighters Museum.

World-renowned patriotic artist Scott LoBaido is creating a giant "thank you" to Tampa Bay for its support of wounded warrior and South Tampa resident Sgt. Mike Nicholson. LoBaido is painting an 80- by 30-foot American flag mural to serve as a constant reminder and "thank you" to the Tampa Bay area for supporting Nicholson and the military community. On July 6, 2011, Nicholson, 22, was on combat foot patrol in Afghanistan when an improvised explosive device exploded in his path. Although Nicholson survived, both legs and his left arm had to be amputated. In addition, he suffered a brain injury. Inaugural Tampa Bay Margarita Festival is May 25

The festival will be held at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park in downtown Tampa.

Margarita fans, unite. The inaugural Tampa Bay Margarita Festival is headed to Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 25. In addition to top shelf margaritas, attendees can expect a fireworks show, beach volleyball and the sounds of four local bands. Admission is $10, but goes up to $15 on May 10. Margaritas range in price from $6 to $8. A portion of proceeds benefits a University of South Florida nonprofit called Students in Free Enterprise, said Monica Varner, who is helping organize the festival. Fresh lime juice, tequila and fresh agave nectar are some of the ingredients included in the margaritas. No mixes allowed. Local Artists Showcasing Work at Bamboozle Cafe

Selena Gomez World Tour Stops at Times Forum in October

Tickets go on sale on Saturday, April 20 for the singer's solo venture.

Multi-platinum singer Selena Gomez is making a tour stop in Tampa Bay in October as part of a 56-city world tour backing her upcoming album, according to a news release from the Tampa Bay Times Forum. The tour begins on Aug. 14 and heads to Tampa at 7 p.m. on Oct. 30. Tickets for the show go on sale at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 20.
