West Tampa Little League Comes South For Help

A Tampa Little League is heading for South Tampa in the hopes of finding new help in its campaign to garner funds from Just For Men.

West Tampa Little League Park is turning to an unusual source for its needed improvements.

A contest staged by Just For Men could provide the funds for new netting in the batting cages, fencing and leveling of the playing fields. If the league succeeds in getting 10,000 men to pledge for their “Strike Out Gray, Tampa Bay!” program, making the upgrades will be possible sooner rather than later.

To rally their community to pledge to “strike out gray,” the league will be participating in “Strike Out Gray Day” on Saturday, July 28, where they will be in front of your neighborhood Publix store at 1313 S. Dale Mabry Hwy in South Tampa from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

West Tampa Little League is one of three Tampa Bay Little Leagues participating in “Strike Out Gray, Tampa Bay!”, sponsored by Just for Men AutoStop, in partnership with the Tampa Bay Rays. The leagues are competing against each other to get the pledges until July 31 to garner the most pledges. The winner will receive $7,500, with the second and third place leagues receiving $2,500 and $2,000 respectively.

“We have a lot of history here and a lot of pride in our League,” said Maggie Puentes, president of the West Tampa Little League. “We’re thankful for the opportunity to participate in this contest and have a shot at getting the funds we need to make some upgrades to the park.”

The participating Little Leagues – West Tampa, Inverness and Dade City – are able to garner pledges nationwide by having family members and friends sign up online at www.strikeoutgray.com/tampabay or www.facebook.com/strikeoutgraytampabay. Those who pledge to strike out the gray before the deadline will receive a $5-off coupon for Just For Men AutoStop.

West Tampa Little League, part of District 6, has 19 teams – including t-ball, baseball and softball – serves approximately 230 kids between the ages of 4 and 17.

The award checks will be presented to the participating Little Leagues at the Tampa Bay Rays home game on Aug. 4.
