Video: Occupy The Courts

Protesters gathered in front of the U.S. Courthouse in downtown to draw attention to the two-year anniversary of a landmark Supreme Court decision they say enhanced "corporate rule."

“Corporations are not people and money is not free speech,” shouted out Anita Stewart, organizer of Move To Amend Tampa Bay.

Stewart was among the group of about 40 people that gathered in front of Sam Gibbons Federal Courthouse in downtown on Friday, Jan. 20.

protests were planned in more than 100 cities today, as folks hoped to draw attention to the two-year anniversary of Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission decision, a Supreme Court ruling that removed spending limits in political campaigns by corporations and labor unions.

Protesters say the Supreme Court decision allows businesses to essentially buy elections.

“This is an issue that affects anyone, regardless of political party,” Stewart said.

At the demonstration on Friday, a representative from Sen. Bill Nelson’s office met with protestors and collected comments to present to the senator.
