The Plant versus Robinson game goes back decades. Billed as the "Southside Rivalry," it decides who the dominant team is in south Tampa. This season's winner will not only take home the South Tampa Cup but will establish themselves as the dominant power in Hillsborough County. The Tampa Bay Times recently ranked the teams No. 1 and No. 2 in Hillsborough County.
The game does not have any bearing on either teams' playoff seasons, but nonetheless, it will be a knock-down drag-out slugfest. The Panthers have owned the rivalry in recent years. Last year, the Panthers throttled the Knights, 51-9, en route to a Class 8A state title.
This year's contest begs to be different. This year, it's the Knights (9-0) that are coming in with the better record. The Panthers (8-1) have been as dominant as they ever have, but they will be travelling to Jack Peters Field to face what is one of the best teams the Knights have ever fielded.
