Mayor Bob Buckhorn to Dedicate Adamo Drive Mural Project

The mural will be visible in Ybor City, and the dedication ceremony is scheduled for today.

In an effort to pay homage to the history of Ybor City, Mayor Bob Buckhorn and city officials are dedicating the Adamo Drive Mural at 2 p.m. today.

The mural, located between 17th and 19th streets on Adamo Drive, covers a large warehouse and spans two blocks.

It will be one of the largest outdoor murals in Florida at 35 feet high and 12,000 square feet in size, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Michael Parker, a local artist overseeing the project, taught a class at Hillsborough Community College specifically for the mural, and researched the neighborhood by interviewing residents.

That feedback combined with the area's history has been integrated into the content of the mural. HCC students also helped Parker paint the large scale project.

“The mural is a tribute to the history of Ybor City," said Buckhorn in a news release. "It even reflects the character of the neighborhood today; it’s bright, interesting, and forward-looking. Public art projects like this are an important economic driver and help us define Ybor as a creative place.”
