Lutz Learning Center Partners With Timpano to Test Student Etiquette
Students from the Lutz Learning Center took a trip to Timpano in South Tampa on Tuesday to test what they've learned this summer about etiquette.
Students from the Lutz Learning Center for Accelerated Education visited Timpano Italian Chophouse on Tuesday morning to show off what they've learned during the school's "Hollywood" themed summer camp.
By weaving in lessons on social etiquette, the school is able to keep with a tradition of teaching manners to its students, a valuable life skill. Sixteen campers ranging in ages from 6-10 from this year's program were treated to a lunch at Hyde Park Village's Timpano and were tested with a number of silverare items and some difficult food to eat without making a mess.
"They had a menagerie of forks to navigate with napkins in laps and the true test, tomato sauce to keep off themselves," summer camp instructor Simone Johnson said. "All of those things were no challenge for our summer stars. Working with Steven Timpano was a wonderful experience, he went above and beyond to accomodate the kids. The most memorable part was them being trusted to drink out of goblets."
Aside from their resturant experience campers will also be hosting their own garden party based on their restuarant experience, learn to promote themselves by writing autobiographies for a walk of fame and will take a "tour de Lutz" to practice mapping skills. Lastly, they will host a fashion show using their public speaking skills and perform in a talent show using their creativity.
Tuesday's field trip launched a two week span of the Hollywood themed camp which includes an average of 2-3 trips each week.
The Lutz Learning Center for Accelerated Education is a private elementary school for advanced students. The 30-year old institution has students from preschool age to the sixth grade.
South Tampa is a good distance from Lutz, but instructors felt that it offered something different from the area where the school is located and was necessary to give the kids the best experience possible.
"To create a true Hollywood experience we wanted to travel to a part of town that was similiar to that lifestyle," Johnson said. "Hyde Park and Timpano offered that. The management and ambiance at Timpano lends itself to a very upscale and pleasant experience. It was well worth the travel."
