Children and adults alike will get into the beat of Black History Month when Tampa's premier African dance and percussion ensemble, Kuumba Dancers and Drummers, performs Sunday, Feb. 10 at 3 p.m. in the Witt Community Room at the Jan Kaminis Platt Regional Library, 3910 S. Manhattan Ave., Tampa.

The event is part of the library system's lineup of events to celebrate Black History Month.

Founded by Tampa residents Myron and Natalie Jackson, Kuumba Dancers and Drummers is a community-based organization that offers classes and trains members ranging from young children to adults of all ages. Based in Tampa since 1980, the troupe provides traditional African folkdance, music, songs and storytelling.

Presentations consist of extensive research with diverse artists and include dance and music traditions of the African diaspora. Kuumba Dancers and Drummers strive to present an authentic experience to audiences while preserving and nurturing the art form for generations to come.

The free performance is funded by the Friend of the Jan Platt Library.
