Earlier:
A traffic crash this morning along Interbay Boulevard near West Bay Street set off a chain of events that included a water main break and the opening of a sink hole.
According to the Tampa Police Department, the accident happened around 7 a.m. today, Dec. 31. The single-vehicle crash resulted in no injuries, but it did cause damage to a fire hydrant. This, in turn, caused a water main break, which led to the sink hole forming.
The city’s water department is now on the scene to determine the extent of damage. It is unclear when repairs will be complete. At this time, Interbay is closed to traffic between South 6th Street and South Sheridan Road.
