Health Advisory Lifted for Picnic Island Beach

This week's testing indicates that the water does not pose potential risks to the bathing public.

The Hillsborough County Health Department has lifted a health advisory for Picnic Island Beach, according to a press release.

The advisory was issued last week after water samples resulted above threshold for enterococci bacteria based on the criteria recommended by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

This week’s follow-up testing at the beach, 7409 Picnic Island Blvd., indicated that the water is within the satisfactory range and it does not pose potential risks to the bathing public.

The Hillsborough County Health Department has been conducting coastal beach water quality monitoring at nine sites weekly since 2002 through the Healthy Beaches Monitoring Program.
