Gen. Schwarzkopf, 78, Has Died in Tampa

Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf had retired to Tampa, Fla., after a final military assignment leading U.S. Central Command.

Retired Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf, 78, passed away today in Tampa, according to media reports.

Schwarzkopf was best known to the American people for his leadership in removing Saddam Hussein and his forces from Kuwait in 1991. Schwarzkopf had successfully led an international coalition of U.S. allies to drive out Iraqi troops.

"Barbara and I mourn the loss of a true American patriot and one of the great military leaders of his generation," former President George H.W.  Bush said in a written statement, according to ABC News. Schwarzkopf led what came to be known as Operation Desert Storm under President Bush.

Most recently, Schwarzkopf had served as commander-in-chief of U.S. Central Command, headquartered at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa. Central Command oversees U.S. military and security forces in nearly 20 nations.

According to the Huffington Post, Schwarzkopf was "a much-decorated combat soldier in Vietnam (and) was known popularly as 'Stormin' Norman' for a notoriously explosive temper."

Schwarzkopf's honors included the Purple Heart, Silver Star, Bronze Star Medal, Commendation Medal and Legion of Merit.

He leaves behind his wife, Brenda, and three children.

The bad part of his fame is that he got stopped at the border when he ran the snakes out Kuwait....it would have saved so many lives if he was just able to keep going...R.I.P.

Why do you guys hail somebody who lead an invasion based on a hoax? He may have been a "good man" in real life, but as a General, he participated in a fraud that led to the deaths of many innocent men, women and children.

For those unaware, the exact same propaganda is taking place regarding Syria.
I guess dead babies in incubators is such a good lie, they might as well use it again. Wonder if the PR group, Hill and Knowlton is being used again. They did such a good job with the 15 year old liar back in 1990.

Anybody remember NAYIRAY AL-SABAH??

I know I am hated for not faithfully "supporting the troops," but I know I am in the right for not agreeing with the slaughtering of "foreigners" because of a lie.....a fraud.....a complete hoax.

We are lie to all the time. If we were told the truth, you wouldn't be hailing the General for his service when his service lead to unjustified death and destruction. Sad but true for any actually seeking truth.

The General commanded the US-led international coalition that drove Saddam Hussein's forces out of Kuwait in 1991 . You may be talking about the second invasion of Iraq under a different President and the same General spoke out with doubts about that war.

If your going to rant your liberal BS at least get your facts straight! The general was a true American....something you obviously know nothing about! Even if he was the general that led the invasion of Iraq he would have been following orders.

Liberalist views are undoubtedly from individuals whom have never served either in the armed forces or in a public service manner (police, fire etc).
