Statewide Summit in South Tampa to Offer Strategies and Resources to Nonprofits
Submitted by Jeanette Miller:
2012 Summit on Community Development in an Era of New Challenges presented by Florida Alliance of Community Development Corporations (FLACDC).
With funding reduced and nonprofit agencies facing growing challenges in offering programs and services for community development, the FLACDC 2012 Summit will provide information, strategies and resources for nonprofits, their partners and stakeholders on how they can move their communities toward economic prosperity. Today’s nonprofits must rethink who they work with, funding resources they use, and how to best utilize joint ventures with for-profit entities in order to succeed and grow.
The two day event features expert state and local speakers who will review the process and importance of understanding state policies and engaging the right skills, resources and certifications to promote and develop nonprofit agencies. Attendees will be presented information from nonprofit, community development, financial services and government perspectives. A partial list of speakers include:
• Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn: Welcome and Opening Remarks
• Congresswoman Kathy Castor: The State of Community Development
• Dan Jurman, Executive Director & CEO University Area Community Development Corporation: Keeping the Community in Community Development
• Ken Reecy, Assistant Director, Division of Community Development, Florida Department of Economic Opportunity: An Introduction to the New Florida Department of Economic Opportunity
